Brian D. Barash, MD

Brian D. Barash, M.D. graduated with Honors from the University of Kansas with his undergraduate degree in Human Biology. After spending a year doing bench top research on Polycystic Kidney Disease, Dr. Barash confirmed that Medicine was his calling. He went on to complete medical school in 1995, also at the University of Kansas Medical School where he was honored with the Cogwell award for his performance in coursework in Anatomy and Cell Biology.
Dr. Barash completed his Adult Psychiatry training in 1998 and after serving as Chief Resident at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, he then went on to finish a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2000. Dr. Barash is a Board Certified Diplomate both in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In 2008, Dr. Barash achieved his third Board Certification and Diplomate status in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
Dr. Barash and colleagues started Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates (CPA) in 1998 and since that time their practice has grown to be a stable fixture within the Kansas City community at large. Doctors Barash, Young, Ulusarac and Mossinghoff, along with Mid Level Practitioners Anderson and McCoy, as well as many diverse Therapists continue to provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients of all ages and levels of complexity, maintaining a cutting edge philosophy by constantly staying abreast of new and emerging neuroscience information. One way this is accomplished is through clinical research trial participation in collaboration with many Pharmaceutical companies as well as through University based research. Dr. Barash and colleagues work with mental health professionals including Therapists and Psychologists throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area as well as throughout the Country to provide collaborative care to their patients.
Dr. Barash enjoys treating patients of all ages from the very young child to the mature adult. He and his colleagues welcome and value the opportunity to treat you and believe that they will earn your confidence and trust. They remain open to new patients either by self-referral or through a clinician generated request.
E. Michael Young, MD
Dr. Michael Young received his Bachelor of Arts degree from William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri in 1990 and his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Young completed his residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1998. He was Chief Resident in Psychiatry 1997-1998 and the recipient of the Pfizer Career Directions Award and the Feynman Lectures in Physics Award in 1998.
Dr. Young became a consulting Psychiatrist upon completion of his residency program to various Residential Facilities and Hospitals in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. In 1998, Dr. Young and Dr. Brian Barash were among the founding members of Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates, LLC, in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Dr. Young continued consulting as he built his private practice, and has established himself as a heavily relied-upon mental health provider serving patients of all ages.
In addition to his practice at Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates, Dr. Young is a consulting Psychiatrist to Marillac Children’s Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Dr. Young is board certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Young does not lecture or consult for any pharmaceutical company, choosing to focus his non-clinic time toward efforts to raise awareness for environmental and natural energy causes.
Dr. Young accepts new patients via all methods of referral.
Asim Ulusarac, MD
Dr. Asim Ulusarac graduated from the Istanbul University Medical School in Istanbul, Turkey in 1993. From 1993-1995 Dr. Ulusarac worked as a general practitioner in charge of the pediatric emergency room, which serves as the regional center for several states. He started a Family Practice Residency program at Sisli Etfal Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey from 1995-1996. Upon completion of first year of his Residency program in 1996, Dr. Ulusarac left Turkey to begin the Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of South Alabama, School of Medicine. In June of 2000 he completed the General Psychiatry Residency Program. Dr. Ulusarac was involved in clinical research during his years in medical school and while in his psychiatric residency.
While employed at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources, Dr. Ulusarac treated patients that not only suffered from a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders and chemical dependencies, he also treated patients that suffered from mental illness due to general medical conditions and terminal illnesses. He also treated geriatric patients with different forms of dementia.
Dr. Ulusarac joined Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates in November, 2004 and became a full partner with company in 2008.
He has been published in several Medical Journals and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Ulusarac’s board certification is in General Psychiatry.
Dr. Ulusarac treats child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. He is currently accepting new patients regardless of the referral source.
